Playback!: Elton John, ‘Step Into Christmas’ (1973)
Elton John hopped into London’s Morgan Studios in November of 1973 and quickly recorded a single entitled “Step Into Christmas.”
This non-LP holiday song grabbed the #1 spot on Billboard‘s Christmas Singles chart and hit #24 on the UK charts. In the video below lyricist Bernie Taupin can be seen “playing” the bells in the instrumental break. Step into it!

Thanks so much for sharing this. I’d heard the song but never seen the video. Interesting to see guitarist Davey Johnstone pull a Mick Ronson stage move on Elton at 2:46!
I hadn’t seen the video before either. At least, not within memory. Good to see Taupin and the ’70s-era band goofing around.
